What will I learn in this FactoryTalk Optix course?

You’ll learn how to create a basic HMI application in FactoryTalk Optix. You’ll work with projects, shapes, images, text, status indicators, controls, and the built-in emulator.

What level is this course?

This is a beginner-level course. It is designed for people who are new to FactoryTalk Optix or HMI development and want a practical introduction.

Do I need FactoryTalk Optix software to take this course?

Yes. To follow along with the course and practice the examples, you’ll need to install FactoryTalk Optix Studio. FactoryTalk Optix Studio Standard is available at no cost from Rockwell Automation. you can download it from Rockwell Automation Product Compatibility and Download Center.

Do I need a PLC or other hardware for this course?

No. You do not need any hardware for most of the course. In the final section, you’ll see how the HMI application communicates with a physical PLC. If you want to follow along with that lesson, you’ll need either a physical PLC or a FactoryTalk Logix Echo license. Rockwell Automation offers a 30-day free trial of FactoryTalk Logix Echo, which you can request from the Rockwell Automation website.

Is this course suitable if I have never built an HMI before?

Yes. The course starts with the basics and takes you through creating and testing a simple HMI application step by step.
